Houston Women's Clinic - Houston, Texas Abortion Service Provider

ABORTION SERVICES

Houston Women's Clinic was established in 1976, and has earned the reputation of providing quality medical services in a compassionate environment.

Our clinic is open Monday through Saturday.

Your Appointment:
When you arrive, you will be given some medical forms to complete. Once you have completed these forms, you will have an ultrasound to determine how long you have been pregnant.

Next, a staff person will explain the procedure, what to expect after you leave and future birth control. This counseling is done on an individual basis, NOT IN A GROUP, so that you are free to discuss any concerns or issues relating to the abortion.

A lab test will be performed to determine your Rh factor. The counselor will also give you all of your take home medications and birth control pills at no charge. We also have information on the latest contraception such as, Nuvaring, Mirena and the birth control patch (OrthoEvra).

Before the procedure, one of our nurses will give you some medications to help you relax and feel comfortable. You will also be offered IV sedation for the procedure at no extra cost. This medication will make you comfortable and relaxed and it is a very effective pain reliever.

The procedure takes place in a regular exam room, just like any other doctor's office. A female assistant will be with you to talk with you and comfort you. The procedure used is the vacuum aspiration method and it only takes a few minutes. Afterwards, you will rest in a recovery area until you are ready to leave. The total time at our clinic is approximately 3 hours.

Aftercare:
You can expect to have some bleeding after the abortion. It may be light spotting for a few days or it may last up to 3 weeks. Be sure to call us if you experience heavy bleeding. (713) 868-4483

Even though there are some restrictions on strenuous activities for a few days, most women are able to return to work or school the following day. The counselor will give you written instructions on what to expect the next 2-3 weeks. Please be sure to read these carefully and refer back to them if you have questions.

If you should have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to call. A routine follow-up examination should be performed three weeks after the procedure. These are available at no extra charge at our clinic or may be obtained at your doctor's office.

A Final Thought:
You have made a difficult decision.

It is important that you receive the care and compassion that you deserve.
